North State Steel was founded in 1984 when Thomas F. Trevathan, PE, recognized a critical need in the market: reliable, high-quality fabricated steel products delivered with integrity. What began in a modest 5,000 sq. ft. shop in Greenville, North Carolina, with just a handful of dedicated employees, quickly earned a reputation for excellence. From the start, our mission was clear: deliver top-tier steel solutions at a fair price, on schedule, every time.
That unwavering commitment laid the foundation for decades of growth. Today, North State Steel is a leading name in the industry, with nearly 100 employees and multiple facility expansions under our belt. We’ve evolved from handling small, multi-ton projects to delivering complex, large-scale steel packages involving thousands of tons.
As the industry has advanced, so have we, investing in our people, equipment, and processes to meet the growing demands of modern construction. Yet through all the growth, one thing has never changed: our dedication to quality, service, and integrity.
In 2018, a new chapter began. Tom sold the company to its employees, and North State Steel proudly became a 100% employee-owned ESOP. Today, every member of our team has a vested interest in our clients’ success.
